September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In honour of all families who suffer this tragedy we are sharing the story of Tucker Williams.

The Williams family, a picture perfect, happy family of 5 — then tragedy struck. Their youngest member, Tucker, was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma at the tender age of 7.

Tucker was an energetic, carefree boy, busy playing lacrosse and hockey and horsing around with his friends and siblings. Who would think he had anything to worry about except fitting as much fun into a day as possible?

Instead, Tucker suffered through testing, chemotherapy, blood transfusions, a bone marrow transplant, and more. All the while he was ‘Braver Than Brave’ — the motto that he is remembered by.

Devastatingly, Tucker’s story does not have a happy ending.  He passed away just days before Christmas 2014 at the age of 8.

“There was no cure for our sweet Tucker and our hearts are forever broken. All children diagnosed with cancer deserve more than 3% of funding.”

~ Tamara Williams, Tucker’s Mom
