When the Emerald Ash Borer swept through our province, including our hometown, and killed over 99% of the ash trees it infested the impact was devastating. One day walking the kids home from school, we looked around and felt that something was different. The mature residential area normally vibrant and tree filled, felt barren. It was then we realized that the township had just removed all of the Ash trees affected by the Emerald Ash Borer. Our neighbourhood was naked!
We started brainstorming ideas of what we could do to help raise awareness of the importance of urban forestry and to help save trees. On that same walk home from school we decided that we could create a line of Ash Bark Jewelry that used actual scanned ash bark 3D printed and cast in precious metal so that it had the true to life bark texture. A tree’s bark is its fingerprint, so it seemed only natural for us to create the Bark Jewelry Collection and launch with ash bark texture.
Having gained a renewed appreciation for woodlands we were compelled to do something in response. We partnered with Forests Ontario, a non-profit registered charity dedicated to making our forests greener. They plant millions of trees each year!
For each item purchased in the collection we will plant trees in cooperation with Forests Ontario. If you’d like to learn more you can find them at www.forestsontario.ca.
