Thanks to her son and the miracle of modern medicine, this mom is able to celebrate another Mother’s Day with her family.

Unknowingly living with auto-immune diseases for years, Fay’s liver was attacked and failing. She grew very ill and her future looked bleak unless a successful liver transplant was made possible. The family was overwhelmed by the generous response of loved ones when the urgent call for donors was issued. The most compatible candidate was her eldest son, Craig, who was about to become a parent for the first time in a few short months. Craig selflessly provided a portion of his liver to save his mother’s life.

The transplant took place on Fay’s birthday. It was quite an emotional moment when the medical staff pushed Fay’s bed, post-surgery, by Craig’s door. Craig had been waiting for some hours to see her go by, and in Fay’s case, she was anxious to see that he was ok. “Happy birthday, I am glad you’re my mom”, Craig called out with a fragile voice from his hospital bed. Fay thanked him for the most incredible gift he could ever give — LIFE. There was not a dry eye in the place.

Months later, both Craig and Fay had recovered well from surgery and the family wanted to show the medical staff and supportive loved ones how thankful they were for their care and support.

Determined to give a meaningful enough gift to convey this message, they chose to create a Dimples charm with Fay’s fingerprint for each person. Each charm was packaged in a shadow box with an engraving plate that conveyed their heartfelt thanks. Interestingly too, Fay’s fingerprint happens to have a cross visible in it. To a family with a background of faith, this mark symbolizes how truly blessed they feel. Many of these gifts were opened with tears and embraces.

This May 8th, Fay will celebrate Mother’s Day, surrounded by her husband, 4 children, daughter-in-law and son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren — there’s a third on the way too!

In case you are wondering, Craig and his wife welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world a few months after surgery. It will be a most wonderful Mother’s Day indeed!
